The Powdered Sugar Movie - A work in progress.
This is a film from last summer of dusting a hive with powdered sugar.
We are going to keep adding new film and updating it when we get a chance.
The first time you dust your hive, you will hear a very angry sound from your bees. And they will fly out at you.
After a few times, you will notice the bees are not angry anymore, you will hear a more curious buzz and the bees will ignore you.
Our neighbor, who we got into beekeeping a few years ago, called me after she caught a swarm, telling me she knew they were not our bees, because they were real upset when she dusted them.
Measuring 2 cups powdered sugar per hive (2 brood boxes).
Make sure the powdered sugar is dry.
Sift carefully to keep the sugar inside the supers.
Use the entire two cups over the brood boxes.
Bees flying in are instantly covered with sugar.
Gently brush the sugar between the frames.
Bees become coated with powdered sugar.
